With the new chat room feature, there will be a separate room available for unmoderated chat for students in your course. If you would like to meet each other, get ideas, discuss teaching strategies, etc, you can set up chats using this feature. To discuss this with your fellow students, use the student forum inside the course itself and arrange dates and times to talk.

Since this chatroom is unmoderated, please refrain from using foul language or being derogatory, demeaning or inappropriate in any way while in our chat rooms. We do have the ability to monitor without being seen and if any such behavior is observed or reported to us by fellow students, your access will be removed and you can suffer discplinary action in your course. We don't want to sound harsh but sometimes we find it is necessary to remind folks to be respectful of each other. Thank you for your cooperation and enjoy the new feature!

New Chat Room Requires Registration on Your Part

PERCOM has purchased some new software for our chat room live interactive feature for all initial training courses. This will require that you register the first time that you enter again using the Chat Room button on the right side of this screen. It will take you to the login page. It will be in a popup box window so you will need to turn off your popup blocker prior to entering the chat room.

The first time you will use the Register side of the screen in the popup box to set up your user name and password. We want all students using the SAME FORMAT for screen names. Please use your first and last name with appropriate capitalization and spaces, i.e. John Doe. Select your password and reenter it as directed. Then click the Registration button when finished, and it will take you into the chat room. On further accesses, use the login section on the left side of the popup box using the user name and password you entered each time.

FINAL PROJECT FOR INSTRUCTORS COURSE

There seems to be much confusion on the final project and what should be included in the project. You will need to do a one hour presentation/lecture that is videotaped. You should include all of the documents that were used in the presentation including a student evaluation of your class, after teaching the class you should view the video and write your on evaluation on your performance, all documents should be in a electronic format. You will need a skills video in which you teach the skill to a student and then the student performs that skill and your evaluation of their performance. Before sending the projects in you should complete the final exam and the course evaluation form and include them in a electronic format as well. ALL DOCUMENTS MUST BE IN A ELECTRONIC FORMAT. New Procedures for Course Completions

In an attempt to speed up the process of getting actual course completion certificates to individual students, we are piloting a change where we will start emailing the scanned course completion certificates, letters and attached informational docuements to students rather then mailing them. The scanned CCC will contain the signature and can be printed off on your end. This will allow us to get them to you a few days sooner and have less chance of them being lost between us and students, which seems to be happening more frequently since the last round of changes with the U.S. Postal Service. Any student who HAS to have an original from our office can request it when our secretary emails you the scanned documents.

Please do NOT mail them to the PERCOM office as mentioned inside your course and do NOT send them fedex. We do recommend priority mail or some method with tracking but preferably NOT return signature, as sometimes no one is present at that address to sign. Thank you.

New Instructor Course Instructor Effective IMMEDIATELY!!!

Please welcome Mr. Kenneth Harris as your new EMS Instructor course Lead Instructor. PERCOM has been BOOMING lately, so the duties of the Program Director, Mrs. Dinsmore, have expanded greatly. This has unfortunately created delays in answering and grading emails from the Instructor students. So we have hired a new seasoned educator to fill this role so that you, as students, can receive more timely service. It will not change our normal grading and response policy as posted in the "Welcome Page" inside your course. However, it should help avoid any unnecessary delays and may help speed things up for you.

Mr. Harris has been an educator and EMS Coordinator for many years. He just retired from Navarro College as their EMS Program Director. He is very knowledgeable and interesting as well as a fine educator. I think you will all enjoy him. Please send him an email to welcome him to the program. His email address is kennethharris@percomonline.com. Be sure to get the correct address from him to mail your course completion packets directly to him.

All outstanding emails and homework assignments have been forwarded on to his mailbox but please give him a few days to plow through it and catch it all up for any of you who have been waiting a few extra days. Thank you all for your patience.

Calendar Posting Issues Inside Your Course

There seems to be some confusion about chat rooms. As is stated below in a separate announcements welcoming you to observe them, chat rooms are typically held on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. or 7:30 p.m. CST/DST. There is a current glitch inside the calendar program on the course website that IT is attempting to correct. In the meantime, PERCOM staff is unable to add or edit anything on that site including testing items placed there by IT, which is where those strange chat room times came from. So watch HERE for changes to the schedule, not there. From now on, Chat Rooms will NOT be posted on that calendar. Watch this page for changes to the schedule.

Skills Project and Final CE Project

To clarify, these two projects are SEPARATE projects. The Skills Project is in two parts - developing your own skills criteria and checksheet that is not a predeveloped one already in existence and then video'ing yourself, teaching, testing and critiquing that skill on a mock student. The Final CE Project is the 1 hour CE presentation just like you were really teaching a CE class. It requires development of a syllabus, knowledge objectives, lesson plan, handouts (if needed), presentation (powerpoint preferred), quiz, key, and your own version of a course evaluation for for your student(s) to use to evaluate you as well as a 50 minute lecture presentation that must be video'd and an essay of 750-1000 words critiquing your own performance after YOU watch your video.

You can send the skills criteria and checksheet to me in advance by email attachment or fax. All other items including both skills and CE video and all the development and delivery items mentioned above should be saved in electronic format (pdf or Word, for example) on a CD or DVD and mailed to the instructor all at one time. Please do not email them individually and electronic copy is preferred on the disk because otherwise we have to scan each individual page up for your student e-file. So please send them all on the disk together.

Final Projects

On the two final video projects outlines in the Course Schedule posted inside your course, please send those on a DVD. This method is the most univeral now in the current age of computers and the easiest for your instructor to be able to view even when traveling. This might require that you convert your videos to a DVD delivery format. Thank you.

Email and Technical Support Issues

If you are having ANY difficulty logging in to the JB Course site or any other technical difficulties, please email programdirector@percomonline.com. Do NOT email JBCourse' technical support. MOST of the issues are resolved easily on PERCOM's end, as most of the issues are related to incorrect user names or passwords, or minor tech issues related to PERCOM material, not JBCourse material. If we are unable to resolve the issue, WE will contact JBCourse and copy the e-mail to you to help resolve the issue. Also, if you are utilizing an email account through yahoo.com, be aware that yahoo email has some very strange spam filters that for some of our students block emails from us all together, for others it puts them in the trash or spam or junk mail folders, and for others it seems to work fine. If you have NOT been receiving answers to your e-mails from us, then please check your spam/junk/trash folders. If you see no response there, it may be necessary to find you a different email account carrier. Hotmail is a free e-mail service as well, and we don't see the same issues with it that we see with Yahoo. Please notify us if you find it necessary to change your e-mail account.

New Texas Criminal History Certification Requirements

All current students who are not currently certified in Texas but plan to apply for Texas certification should go to this website and read the information and follow instructions regarding criminal history assessments necessary to gain certification. You MUST use Mozilla Firefox as your internet browser to view the coursework. It is a free download available online - just search for "free Mozilla Firefox", download it, execute it, and then use IT to come to this website to log into your course. You WILL not be able to see all course content using any other web browser, such as Internet Explorer.
